Dongguan University of Technology, located in Dongguan, Guangdong Province, is the first regular undergraduate institution in the city. It is among the first universities approved by the Ministry of Education to implement the "Excellence Engineer Education and Training Program," a key-supported institution for constructing high-level science and engineering universities in Guangdong Province, and the province’s sole demonstration university co-built by the province and the city as a new-type high-level science and engineering institution.
The Student Affairs Department is a functional unit responsible for the ideological education and daily affairs management of all full-time undergraduate students at the university. Its primary functions include: centering on the university’s talent cultivation goals, fulfilling the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, and taking ideological guidance, behavioral norms, and academic development as its core responsibilities. It undertakes work in areas such as student ideological and political education, comprehensive quality development, management of scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study programs, mental health education, community service management, protection of students’ legitimate rights and interests, development of the student affairs team, and comprehensive construction of academic ethos. Adhering to the philosophy of "unity of knowledge and action" and the mission of fostering virtue through education, the Student Affairs Department strengthens a "three-round" work framework (involving all staff, the entire process, and all aspects of campus life), constructs a "10+2" education system, and cultivates a team culture of "integrity, excellence, collaboration, and harmony" for student affairs professionals. Its efforts are dedicated to nurturing high-quality applied innovative talents who are courageous in taking responsibility, adept at learning, and daring to surpass themselves, as well as producing socialist builders and successors who develop comprehensively in morality, intelligence, physique, aesthetics, and labor.
Department Responsibilities:
The Student Affairs Department is an administrative organization responsible for the ideological and political education and daily affairs management of full-time undergraduate students at the university. Its responsibilities include:
1. Uphold and implement the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, organize and carry out ideological and political education for undergraduates, and conduct research on student ideological and political education.
2. Develop work plans and strategies in accordance with the requirements of the university Party committee and administration, as well as the university’s overall work arrangements.
3. Formulate guiding documents and regulations for undergraduate education and management.
4. Take the lead in the management and development of counselors, including recruitment, evaluation, promotion, rotation, etc., and manage, assess, and accredit class advisors to enhance the ideological, political, and professional capabilities of counselors and class advisors.
5. Be responsible for undergraduate moral education, vigorously promote the construction of academic ethos, and take the lead in addressing various violations of rules and discipline, as well as academic misconduct.
6. Organize the evaluation, commendation, and awards for outstanding collectives and individuals in undergraduate work.
7. Manage the evaluation and distribution of undergraduate scholarships and grants, work-study programs, hardship subsidies, national student loans, and other related financial aid.
8. Handle the issuance of undergraduate student ID cards and assist in arranging student insurance and other public services.
9. Be responsible for the management of undergraduate student archives.
10. Coordinate and allocate resources in student communities, maintain daily order, promote community cultural construction, and manage community service and administrative personnel.
11. Carry out mental health education, counseling, and crisis intervention for undergraduates, and collaborate with relevant departments to handle student emergencies.
12. Take the lead in organizing orientation education for new undergraduates, and work with relevant departments to coordinate activities such as freshman welcome, military training, opening ceremonies, and graduation ceremonies.
13. Collaborate with the University Youth League Committee to guide student associations in operating in accordance with their respective charters.
14. Complete other tasks assigned by the university and higher-level authorities.
